Can any remote work on a gate?

No, to operate your gate opener, you need either the specific remote control that comes with it or a compatible universal gate opener. but all new remotes have to be programmed into the control board. or some remotes can be copied from one to another

What do you do if you have lost a gate remote?

Check if anything else was stolen from your house or car and report any missing items along with your opener remote. Once done, you must clear the remote from the opener’s memory and purchase a replacement remote control.
